Geoff has spent many years learning traditional basket making techniques, as well as more contemporary sculptural methods, and constructing with living willow. In recent years he has refined his basket making to two forms, ‘pebble’ and ‘wave’. He undertakes commissions for sculptures and living willow installations but no longer makes traditional baskets. However, he does maintain these skills through teaching and workshops.

Process

Geoff uses buff willow, grown and prepared by Musgrove Willows, his supplier of many years. From a paired base he works a three rod wale against curved uprights to create either a ‘pebble’ or ‘wave’ basket.

The completed piece is then painted with gesso and sprayed with several coats of acrylic colour, a sealant finishes the process.
